Getting started
Welcome. This guide assumes you know GTD basics — if you don't, read David Allen's Getting Things Done first. This is about how the tool works.
Your first 10 minutes
- Skim GTD in 5 minutes — the sample note we created in your account. It's in your Notes list.
- Read Welcome to Mind Like Water — also in your Notes list. Tour of every view.
- Capture 3 things on your mind — press
nanywhere to open Quick Capture, orito open Inbox and use the capture bar at the top. Don't filter. Throw in whatever's rattling around. - Clarify one of them — click it in Inbox, set a status (Next / Waiting / Scheduled / Someday) and an Area if you want.
- Create your first real project — press
p, click New project. Give it a clear successful outcome — "Book is printed and shipped" beats "Book project." - Open your Daily Page — press
f. Write one sentence about what matters today. - Run your first Weekly Review — press
0. Walk through the six sections. Mark it complete.
That's the loop. Repeat forever.
The sample "Learn Mind Like Water" project
We seeded a project in your account with 10 walk-through tasks and two notes. It's marked Sequential on purpose — flip the Sequential view toggle on Next Actions to see the feature in action: you'll only see the first incomplete task until you complete it, then the next one appears.
When you're comfortable with the app, delete the sample content from Settings → Sample Content.
